Reflections

So as of now, my artwork has gotten at least somewhat better. I looked back at things I did in the beginning of the year and saw how much it differs from now. I'd rather not go through every assignment and artwork, so I'm just doing a general summary of this year. My intention this year was actually to take MIDI, but apparently I couldn't so Art was a nice second choice. I enjoyed learning about Calder, his artwork was very quirky and interesting. We spent like half the year each learning about a different artist, so that was kind of cool. After each project and assignment was completed, I felt like I was getting better and better at it. The clay work was definitely my favorite part, it was really fun. If there was one thing that I'm really proud of, it's my dinky little saucer for my tea set. I spent so much time carving it and glazing it until every detail was just right. This is what it looks like:

It's actually very tiny, being about the size of the palm of my hand. Well, that's it for me. Goodbye all.

The Tale Of Archibald.

If you ever met someone like Archibald, you wouldn't exactly be in the wrong for hating him. Archibald was a very annoying, over dramatic, stubborn, and big headed punk. He always nagged everyone until he got what he wanted out of them, and if anything happened to him he would make a scene and over react to everything. He always had to be right, no one would ever be able to convince him that he was wrong, and he thought that he was untouchable, and above everybody else. Oddly enough, no one acted like they hated him, because they didn't want to have to deal with whatever he would do to them. That all ended one day when someone had an idea. This man thought that if everyone who hated him (which was everyone that knew Archibald) expressed their hatred for him, he would be outnumbered and unable to do anything in the shocked state that would put him in. So one day after work at the Kluczynski Federal Building in Chicago, they all confronted poor old Archie and told him how they felt about him. He was so surprised, that he had no idea what to do. He could play it off like they were joking, accept their hatred, hate them back, change his terrible ways, and many other options. All these different paths would lead to different outcomes, and Archie didn't really like any of these choices. He went home that night and laid in his bed, pondering what to do. He finally came to a conclusion just before sleep took over, and stuck to it. The next day, right before work started, he called everyone up on the roof for an announcement. Archie told everyone how sorry he was for being such an annoyance to them, and that he really just hoped that he could be friends with them all. After stating this however, he said that he knew that wouldn't be possible, so Archie jumped off the building falling 562 feet. Everyone was sure that he was dead, no one can survive that drop. They all mourned over his death because they knew that they were responsible, and felt terrible. Little did they know that Archibald had survived however. He was a world class stunt man and had prepared a secret hidden cushion to soften the drop. No one knew that he was still alive and had moved to Canada to start a new life with his new name Reginald, for that was his plan all along. Archibald was going to take revenge by seemingly killing himself and making all of his enemies feel guilt and suffering, while he moves on to a brand new and better life with satisfaction in his success.

Self Portraits.

After many, many failures, I have finally made one self portrait that doesn't look too awful, so I decided to work on it. so far it's nice and I'm adding color to it, but it's not completely finished yet. There are a bunch of sentences and words already on it, so that is taken care of. I'm not sure if I like the self portrait or not, but I think it's the best I'm really going to get so I decided to go with it.

Empty Bowls.

For Empty Bowls, I had made a bunch of bowls and platters, all different shapes and sizes. Some had details, others didn't. Some had things like a foot. I thought it was really fun to mold the clay to the way I wanted it. Glazing the bowls was also cool, because sometimes you have no idea how it will turn out. The color of the glaze in the bottle is usually different than the glaze itself after being fired. I thought that was really cool and interesting.

Lanterns.

I chose to base my lantern off of the season of winter. It's kind of small, and I guess you could say blocky? Even so, there are some fluid cuts on the bottom for contrast. I really found this fun to make and cut, because it's so much different than drawing. When you cut paper, you can get different effects and have certain pieces folded or coming out of the paper. When you are drawing, it's just flat, which isn't as fun and exciting.

Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder is a very creative artist. A lot of his artwork consists of sculptures, but he also does art on paper. I really enjoy his artwork, its simple, yet very exciting. I have also noticed that a lot of his art uses only a couple of colors, which I thought was interesting. Calder lived from July 22, 1898 to November 11, 1976. In 1915 He studied mechanical engineering and enrolled in the Stevens Institute of Technology, he excelled in mathematics. In 1918 he joined the Student's Army Training Corps and was made guide of the battalion. In 1926, Calder eventually moved to Paris. In 1926 while traveling by boat to New York, he met his wife, Louisa James. In 1966, Calder had written his Autobiography With Pictures. Three of my favorite artworks by Calder are "Expo Galerie BelIInt", "Composition V", and "Composition III".

I really like Expo Galerie BelIInt, because it's very simple, but there is also a lot going on in it. There are a lot of lines going in different directions, but only like 5 colors in the entire artwork. There's a bunch of circles but the one quadrilateral catches my eye.

Composition V is another one I like. It's still crazy like the other one, but less so. It's also more simple, and not even 5 colors are used, unlike the other one.

Composition III is the last of my favorites. I really like how the two figures are tangled and intertwined. I thought that was really cool. This time, only 2 colors are used, unlike the other two artworks.
